What We're Making Day #5 with Nadine
Hello folks, happy friday! Here again for installment #5 of What We’re Making, and today our top textile talent Nadine is telling us a little bit about her current quilt.
Tell us a bit about your project;
My current project is a quilt for my daughter Katie, using mainly Kaffe Fassett collective fabrics. I have been collecting Kaffe’s fabrics for some years as I love his combination of colour and pattern. The pattern is from a book called ‘Weekend Quilter’ and is a simple pattern that can be adapted to suit your own palette.
The quilt took 3 days to cut out and stitch, now I have added a border and just need to quilt!
Any hints/tips for someone who might want to make your project?
Make sure you have time to cut out the fabrics and organise them into colour groups before you start piecing.
What or who got you into patchwork & quilting?
I got into patchwork and quilting when I started working at the Cotton Patch 17 years ago, but I have always been a stitcher.
What project are you most proud of?
It would have to be my purple log cabin quilt. I love the colour scheme; it almost glows! Plus log cabin is my favourite block pattern.
Who is your favourite fabric designer/brand?
It has to be Kaffe Fassett; no other designer does pattern or colours quite as well as he does!
What tool/notion could you not live without?
My rotary cutter; every patchworker knows it’s an essential tool to get those blocks accurate!
What current collection do you have your eye on and what will you make with it?
The new Cotton & Steel collections [Kujira & Star, Sleep Tight], which I plan to use for small projects like bags and cushions.
Finally, any wise words or top tips for our fellow patchwork & quilters?
Measure twice and cut once!
