Holiday Makes: Get project-ready with these travel cases

You may have everything in order when it comes to packing your clothes for the holidays, but what about your holiday projects? I'm pretty sure avid crafters like you would take the holiday as an opportunity to make something new. The only struggle: you can't pack your sewing machine and queen-size quilt in your suitcase.

Very soon we'll share some ideas of projects you can actually take on holiday, but today we want to help you pack the things you needs to get crafting even away from home. Whether you want to make it yourself or buy it complete, we'll have the right thing for you.

Your new essential book

There's no doubt, if you want to make yourself a clever pocket-size organiser to take on holiday then you need a copy of Stitched: Sewing Organisers. This book is packed with projects that will suit the most minimal crafter down to the multi-tasking creative. We want to share with you our favourite ones from the book.

Only word of caution: do take care of packing any sharp tool in your hold luggage. The last thing you want it losing your precious scissors before departure.

Fold-up sewing folio

With a finished size of 6" x 8" (12.2 x 20.3cm), this folio will be able to pack all the necessities of hand sewing. It features a clear vinyl pocket, a felt needle book, a pin cushion, slots for scissors and small tools and an extra pocket.

Book & Tool Folio

Bigger than the first option, the Book and Tool Folio is just that. This make will allow you to take a project book or your notebook with you as it measures 10" x 12.5" (25.4 x 31.8cm). It's also great for packing larger templates, a small cutting mat and a few spools thanks to its many pocket slots.

Boxy pocket pouch

Now if you're a person who likes to keep everything in boxes and don't like too many pockets, then the Boxy Pocket Pouch is a great project. The main pocket is 8" wide x 6" high x 5" deep (20.3 x 15.2 x 12.7cm) so you can easily fit fabric boxes inside it (patterns also available in the book) and keep everything organised. This also means you can take the boxes out when you're working and put them back once you're done. This pouch also has a zipped pocket on one side and two slots on the other, making it very versatile.

Project Tote

For an easy to carry organiser, the Project Tote is a stylish option. With a finished size of 15" x 11" (38 x 28cm), you can fit your Fold-up Sewing Folio and your project in it. It closes with a magnetic clasp and has an open pocket inside for little things (or your card or mobile phone!).

Don't have the time to make your own organiser? That's ok. We also have a great selection of travel-ready accessories.

Prym Love Mega Bundle

We love this bundle from Prym because it contains all the necessary tool that a crafter might need in a pretty turquoise and red colourway. Just add throw it in a tote bag with your current project and you're ready to create on the go.

Omnigrid Quilter's Travel Case

Any demanding quilter will be satisfied by this strong and professional case. Cleverly designed, you'll find everything in its right place. Its generous yet travel-friendly size (34 x 35 x 6.5cm) will be able to hold your holiday project without problem.

Omnigrid Foldaway

Can't get away from your current quilt project? If you use small fabric pieces, then the Omnigrid Foldaway is a must-have. This cutting and pressing station measures roughly 7" x 7" (17.8 x 17.8cm) once folded and it could fit inside the Project Tote and alongside the Book & Tool Folio. Not big enough? We also have a large version available.

And if you don't have access to an iron or want to pack a practical mini version, then the Craft Steam Iron as used above is perfect.
