Our Top Ten Fabrics with Summer Vibes

Finally, after a white, chilly winter, late March brings us a peeping of daffodils and the clocks moving forward. I personally love summer. It's a wonderful colour palette; blue skies, blossoming flowers, an array of green trees, birds and bees and butterflies - what's not to love. And the best part - it translates so wonderfully into fabric. Summer quilts remind me of long evenings sat out on the patio, the fire in the chiminea crackling and a quilt draped over my shoulders. We really do get the most beautiful summer evenings in England (even if we may only get a few).

To celebrate this change in the seasons we've chosen our top ten summer fabric ranges that we think beam with summer vibes and will make some remarkable quilts.

This charming floral collection from Makower comes in the prettiest shades of pinks, turquoises and reds. The large floral designs paired with the coordinating small ditsy prints make this collection perfect for scrappy projects and summer quilts.

This quilt kit designed by Lynne Goldsworthy using the Katie Jane fabric collection from Makower oozes summer vibes.

“The pond comes alive in the spring and continues into summer. The geese and cranes are flying over to do their gentle landings on the water. The frogs are croaking, and the lily pads are getting ready for them. It's our favourite time of year after the long cold winter”

This gorgeous collection from Holly Taylor for Moda is full of deep purples and rich blues with natural prints of ditsy florals and elegant cranes.

With a wingspan of patterns and a cut-out feel, Bethan Janine's new collection Flock for Dashwood Studio is inspired by watching birds gather in the garden. It's a bright collection with graphic, Scandinavian designs, perfect for a colourful, bold quilt.

It's back! After trotting through our door last month and cantering straight back out we decided too many people missed out on this absolutely fantastic panel! It's impossible to not feel utter happiness when you look at these hilarious, charismatic farm animals and their big cheesy grins! Plus, you can't get much more 'English summer' than this.

A stunning collection of deep, lavish colours combined with flashes of bright lights makes this small but bold range emit sophistication. The rich tones and deep purples take you to summer evenings filled with candlelit dinners and bottles of red wine.

Encourage your little adventurers to be brave and bold with this new nursery collection from Abi Hall for Moda. Wild & Free celebrates the beauty of nature and the joys of exploring the wilderness with cute characters and a lively mix of patterns and prints. Soft and natural colour stories are perfect for a sophisticated and on-trend nursery project and what a gorgeous panel to match!

“As Makers, we turn a house into a home. A van, a boat, a tent, a picnic under a tree, or a fort made of quilts becomes a home, because of a Maker’s special touch. Wherever we are, we create a sense of place, with needle and thread. Makers colour their home with love."

Whilst summer may be full of  day trips and visits to places far away, as makers we'll often carry a personal made piece from home with us. This beautiful, vibrant collection would be great for making travel accessories to take away with you!

From scratch and farm-fresh, Biscuits & Gravy uses the perfect blend of reds, blues, greens and yellows to express the feeling of down-home goodness. This collection feels simple and wholesome and takes you to rural summer strolls through long grass fields filled with farm animals grazing and wild flowers blowing in the breeze.

Still need to chase those winter blues away? How about these stunning bright florals and tonal ditsy coordinates that make up Sundance by Beth Studley for Makower. This collection takes me away to tropical islands, fresh fruit platters and an inviting, turquoise ocean with a flower in my hair... I can almost feel the sun on my skin just looking at it!
