Sizzix Birds Quilted

It was a typically busy Monday at The Cotton Patch but I managed to squeeze in enough time to quilt my Sizzix quilt "Posh Birds". Using Superior Threads King Tut for a trailing bee quilting line with a few subtle names en route and a pink Superior Threads Masterpiece on the border with a free motion trailing flower.

Pat is going to put it in a frame so I just finished off the edges with a satin stitch to hold it in place. Great fun to do and only two hours from start to finish.

And here is the link to our inspiration - Posh Birds eggs. Delicious!

Birds Die for the Sizzix Big Shot

As the range of Sizzix dies increases we see more and more opportunities for using the dies.

This is a bit of a Ronnie Corbett story but...

Pat has worked for us for over thirty fact we can't remember when she didn't work for us - even before The Cotton Patch had been thought of! Her birthday was coming up I thought it would be great to make her a little quilt or cushion cover.

The Cotton Patch at Harrogate Knitting and Stitching Show 2012

Pat (2nd from right) helped us out when we went to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate in November. She'd never been to a show before but she loved giving out leaflets and chatting with customers. We stayed close to the Conference Centre at a house which was really convenient. It also meant we could cook a full English breakfast. My favourite eggs for poaching are a brand called Posh Birds. They're superb when they're fresh as they retain the perfect shape when being poached with excellent flavour. A good start to the day!

The four of us got on really well and decided we needed a nickname - the obvious choice was "Posh Birds"!

The Sizzix Die "Birds" is a great little die with two birds on it. So I thought I should make Pat a quilt for her birthday. This is the die...

Looking in my stash I found some lovely batiks and some spare strips of Amy Butler fabric. A quick run of the die through the Sizzix Big Shot and an hour later from looking at the fabric and thinking about cushion cover ready for quilting on the Sweet Sixteen during my lunchbreak at work tomorrow! Featuring four Posh Birds!!

It was fused on using Steam a Seam 2. It's so good when used with Sizzix dies because you can reposition your pieces before a final ironing!

Sizzix Big Shot & Patchwork & Quilting Dies

We launched our range of Sizzix patchwork dies at the Festival of Quilts 2012 and they have been very popular and we are continuing to expand our range.  We hope that those customers who have purchased a Sizzix Big Shot are very happy with it and its ability to create patchwork pieces. We have been using the Big Shot a lot in the shop and offices and are really impressed at the speed and accuracy.

Sizzix Big Shot for Patchwork

We also know from customers comments that many of you already had the Big Shot or the Big Shot Pro from your paper crafts and that you have been topping up your Sizzix dies with some that are more appropriate for patchwork designs.

We are expanding our range of patchwork dies and have recently added the

We are currently working on a number of patchwork projects for the Sizzix machines and below you can see Liz working on a Tumbler Block quilt. We have cut out the shapes with the Big Shot and the Tumbler Die 10634 and are arranging them using a Clover Design Wall Layout Sheet ref 7091. The design sheet allows you to easily arrange your pieces, move your pieces around, step back, make changes etc so that you can really get the best combinations of fabrics.
