First sort out all the fabrics you want to include in terms of value - all the lights together, all the mediums and darks. Then cut strips (they can be graduating from for example 2" to 3" from start to finish - they don't have to be the same width all the way up. Then sew all your strips together. once you've got a decent size piece use a ruler like the Kaleido ruler (Marti Michell or similar) or Omnigrid 96 or 96L and cut across the strips. Follow patterns for Kaleidoscope quilts or one of the many patterns for strip rolls or jelly rolls. By grading into lights, mediums and darks you notice the design, not the individual fabrics.
